31 July 2005 By the time we got to Denham, (a small airstrip near London used by a Cirrus owner I had met in Duluth ) I could see that it just wasn’t going to work. I had begun with expectations of teamwork and a great adventure…. It just wasn’t working out that way.
What to do. My good friend Rick was waiting in France and there would be no issue me flying down there. However I didn’t fancy doing the rest of the trip on my own and it was unlikely that I could rustle up some one at short notice, and unless I got going reasonable quickly I would miss Julie’s birthday back home. So I decided to leave the Cirrus at Denham in Ian Valentine’s safe hands and return later in August. I was lucky enough to get a business class seat on a plane leaving Heathrow at midday the next day, so Ian picked me up the next morning, I tied down the plane, and jumped in a cab for the 10 miles or so to Heathrow..
3 weeks at work won’t go astray, I have a new accountant and sales manager who started just as I left, so this will be a good opportunity to make sure everything is OK there, and plenty of time to find the right person and to do the trip planning etc that needs to be done to continue the adventure. |
